Our Coaches
Phil Kominski began swimming competitively the day he was born into his family. No joke, with seven brothers and sisters arriving before him, and one after, the majority of whom were swimmers, there was little choice: It was “Swim or live with the neighbors”. He swam for The Prince-Mont Swim League for thirteen years, setting several team and pool records. He club swam for RMSC for twelve years as well as at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, before transferring to the University of Maryland at College Park. Phil has coached MCSL, PMSL, CCSDA and currently is the Coach for the Silver 2 Nations Capital Swim Club Team at the Georgetown Prep site.
Outside of swimming, Phil is a Musician and owns an events agency, Freestyle Booking & Events, which focuses on placing musicians, DJS, lighting, photo booths and more for weddings, corporate events, public events and other private functions. Phil, and one of his bands (Lloyd Dobler Effect, now The Breakaways) has toured the world and shared the stage as an opening act for musicians such as The Goo Goo Dolls, Kansas, Jack Johnson, Eminem, Better Than Ezra, Third Eye Blind, The Strokes, Janes Addiction, The Roots and many, many others. Phil lives in Olney, Maryland with his wife Elizabeth (English Teacher, Musician and head of the Theatre Department at Sherwood High School), his son (Tyler), his daughter (Harper) and their two dogs (Jack & Jill).
Leonie has been swimming competitively since the age of 6. She has been apart of the Avenel swim team since 2016 and loves teams atmosphere. Leonie swam competitively for ASA and has been apart of the Winston Churchill Swim team since freshman year. Leonie has been coaching rising stars at ASA for 4 years for kids the ages of 4 to 13. This is Leonie’s second year coaching for Avenel. She is very excited to work with new and returning swimmers this season!
Ashley has been swimming since she was three years old. She appreciates the sport’s competitive nature and constantly strives to do her best. She has swam competitively with NCAP for nine years and plans to continue her swimming career in college. She was a junior coach with Avenel team last summer and in previous year assisted in another local summer swim team. Ashley is currently a sophomore at Walt Whitman High School. Besides spending her time on swim practices and academic schedules, she enjoys playing flute and reading. Ashley is excited to work with younger swimmers this upcoming year and share her love for swimming.
Brandon has been a competitive swimmer for eight years, swimming for NCAP for all eight years and competing in national meets. He was at Avenel as a junior coach last year and really enjoyed the atmosphere and spirit. He enjoyed working with the swimmers and watching them achieve best times. He has also coached at another team for two years prior to joining as a junior coach. He hopes to have a lot of fun with the Avenel Team this summer and is excited for the season to start!
Elise started swimming at the age of five in Connecticut before moving to Germany. She swam for a club while in Europe and joined the Avenel Alligators in 2016. She has always been passionate about swimming and thrives to improve while doing it. Soon, Elise joined the Avenel junior coach team to coach 3 to 10-year old swimmers and has been an assistant coach at All Stars Aquatics (ASA) for the past 4 years. She has great energy and loves supporting the team at every swim meet. She is very excited to be teaching Avenel swimmers to become their best swimmers. She was a junior coach last summer and loves working with younger swimmers at Avenel swim team this summer.
